Little Egret over the top of the Long Pits
A wander around the top of the Long Pits mid morning found several each of Willow Warbler and Blackcap with a few Swallows over.
Great White Egret Hay Field 3
Early afternoon at Dengemarsh found more Swallows and a Yellow Wagtail. A Great White Egret on Hay Field 3 was a surprise as I thought they had all gone, I assume this bird is non breeder as still has a yellow bill. At Hookers a Nightingale was singing half heartedly on the island, several Willow Warblers were there, also a Lesser Whitethroat and plenty of Sedge Warblers.

In coming Ring Ouzel
This lovely bird was found in the Desert by the DBO assistant warden Tom Wright

A very distant Black-throated Diver photo bombing a sail training ship this morning
A few migrant passerines turned up on the peninsula as promised by the SE wind, but they were very few. The Common Redstart was again by the Polish Memorial, while on the reserve The Great Northern Diver was still present, a showy Firecrest in the car park but little else of note.

Most of the rest of the day was taken up with domestic stuff, so I didn't get a chance to look for the male Redstart found at the Polish memorial by PE this morning.
I did get out for a couple of hours this evening, parking at Springfield Bridge I walked to Firth and back, I encountered at least 5 Sedge Warblers around Denge Marsh but little else. On Burrowes still at least 4 Little Gulls and the Great Northern Diver but again nothing new.

One of several Swallows over the ARC this morning, also a Willow Warbler singing in the Willow Trail.

Yet another very uninspiring sea watch this morning! There is a distinct lack of spring migrants around the peninsular.

Tufted Duck at Burrows, just because they are very smart looking birds
Its good that I now regularly get 8+ Greenfinches visiting my garden feeders, they seem to be showing signs of a come back from the catastrophic decline of recent years.

1st summer Little Gull photobombing the Great Northern Diver on Burrowes
There were 5+ Little Gulls on Burrowes today with the long staying GND, when the drizzle arrived it dropped a few Swallows and Sand martins there. A wander around the hayfields was hard work for little reward in todays strong wind. Hopefully things will improve as the month progresses

I don't see many Avocets on sea sea watches at Dungeness
A couple of relatively close Red-breasted Mergansers

At least 1 Great Northern Diver was still on Burrowes late afternoon
10+ Little Gulls were hawing over Burrowes today, they weren't all this obliging
Another tasty morsel

Apart from a couple each of Chiffchaff and Sedge Warbler and long staying Water Pipits I found very little sign of migrant passerines on my plod around the reserve. I was hoping for an LRP at Christmas Dell, which now looks very good due to the habitat creation works done over the winter, I will be very surprised if they don't breed there and probably Garganey. I'm guessing that when the storms clear in Iberia and Southern France there will be a rush of migrants.🤞

The Lydd Little Owls watched me as I walked by
Pied Wagtail collecting nesting material
After my late breakfast while scrolling X and WhatsApp I noticed there seemed to be lots of birders around Dungeness, so instead of going to the usual sites  walked out of the back of Lydd and then around the back of Scotney to Jurys Gap and back. Although it was a very pleasant walk it was also disappointing due to the complete lack of migrants. There plenty of Skylarks, Corn and Reed Buntings but none of the hoped for Yellow Wagtails, Hirundines and Little Ringed Plovers. But it is only still March. From the reports I heard from the reserve nothing new was found today, there are still a few Water Pipits around, c15 Little Gulls on Burrowes as well as the Great Northern Diver, 2 there yesterday, a White Stork of unknown origin flew through North East, a few Sedge Warblers and a Willow Warbler.
